The Epiphany of the Lord House Blessing

Sunday, January 4th, is the Feast Day of the Epiphany of the Lord. During this season “chalking the door” is a centuries-old Christian custom to ask God’s blessing on your home for the new year. As we begin this new year, we invite you to “chalk your door” and recite this prayer of blessing for your home.

20 + C + M + B + 26

The “20” and “26” refer to the year. The “+” between the letters symbolizes the cross of Christ. The “C M B” initials have two meanings:

  1. The initials represent the three Magi: Casper, Melchior and Balthazar.
  2. Also, the initials abbreviate the Latin “Christus mansionem benedict” (May Christ bless this house.)

Blessing Prayer
God of Light, bless our home. Make it a haven of rest for all in need of your warmth and care. When we leave from this place, may we never lose sight of Christ’s light. We mark our door with the symbol of blessing. May all who enter here find love and light for Christ dwells in this home and in these hearts. Amen
