Feast of the Immaculate Conception
Normally, the Church celebrates the Feast of the Immaculate Conception on December 8 and in the United States is a Holy Day of Obligation. However, December 8 is a Sunday and therefore the Feast of the Immaculate Conception is transferred to Monday, December 9. Normally, the obligation of Sunday Mass for the Immaculate Conception remains. However, there were many resources approved by the church, published the feast of the Immaculate Conception as celebrated on December 9 but not as a Holy Day of Obligation. Because of the confusion in documents, because no vigil Masses can be celebrated (they would all be for the Sunday Mass) the obligation to attend Mass has been lifted by Bishop McKnight. We will celebrate three Masses on Monday, December 9th; 6:30am & 7:00pm (Spanish) at St. Patrick and 8:30am at Sacred Heart.
