April is Alcohol Awareness Month

Here are 10 Statistics about Teen drug abuse – updated 2-28-2022

  1. 31% of 12th graders have not used any substances in their lifetime.
  2. Youth who start drinking before age 15 are 7 times more likely to develop and alcohol use disorder as an adult
  3. Risky substance use and addiction is the leading cause of preventable death in the US, it begins in the teen years.
  4. 71% of 8th graders disapprove of people who smoke marijuana occasionally
  5. 63% of highschool seniors disapprove of regular use of marijuana
  6. More than 90,000 Americans dies of an overdose in 2020
  7. Early initiation of drinking is associated with the development of an alcohol use disorder later in life
  8. After first trying cannabis or misusing prescription drugs, the % of young people who develop a substance abuse disorder is higher among ages 12-17 than young adults 18-25.
