August is Eye Health Month

With school starting here are some health tips to keep your eyes strong.

  1. Eat Right to keep eyes healthy:  a diet with lots of fruit and green leafy vegetables and fish.
  2. Get Moving: Kids who exercise and have a normal weight are less likely to develop diabetes which can cause eye damage.
  3. Speak up if your vision changes.
  4. Wear your glasses and keep them clean.
  5. Keep germs away – wash your hands before touching your eyes
  6. Gear up. Many eye injuries can be prevented by wearing safety glasses when playing sports, science classes or mowing the lawn.
  7. Wear your shades – sun can damage the eyes
  8. Give your eyes a break – 20-20-20 rule. When watching a screen of any sort every 20 minutes look away 20 feet for 20 seconds.
  9. Say no to smoking – it is bad for your eyes
  10. Talk about it – know your family history regarding any eye disease or conditions.
