Come and see OLIVER! THE MUSICAL featuring Fr. Debo!

August 21, 2021  (Saturday)

Here’s another exciting Catholic trip you don’t want to miss!  OLIVER! THE MUSICAL is a true theatrical masterpiece!

This multi-award winning, light hearted show is the musical adaptation of the classic Dickens novel and comes to life with some of the most memorable characters and songs to ever find their way to the stage!

On August 2021 consider yourself one of us at this Tony and Academy Award winner for Best Picture!  Based upon the life of Oliver Twist we’ll see the streets of Victorian England come to life as we follow the adventures of Oliver.

When orphaned Oliver is captured for a theft that he did not commit, the benevolent Mr. Brownlow (played by Missouri’s own talented Catholic priest, Fr. William Debo) takes Oliver in with more adventures, danger, humor and always wonderful songs to follow!  Capital City Productions in Jefferson City again is featuring a wonderful show!

You may remember us visiting St. Georges Catholic Church in Hermann at Christmas time when we were treated to the very elaborate Christmas decorations and displays in the rectory that Fr. Debo always supplied while he was the priest at that parish!  These days Fr. Debo is the priest at Holy Family Parish in Freeburg and Sacred Heart Parish in Rich Fountain.  (see his picture and bio in the current issue of the Catholic Missourian)

We’ll attend the matinee where this time an elaborate buffet is included which will be set up in the adjoining Hawthorn Room!  The delicious menu includes Chicken Cordon Bleu with a Rich Royal Cream Sauce, Savory English Pot Roast, Spinach Salad with a Strawberry Pecan Vinaigrette, Real Mashed Potatoes with Gravy, Green Beans Almandine, Fire Roasted Baby Carrots, Sticky Toffee Pudding Cake Smothered in a Buttery, Sweet, Toffee Sauce and Drizzled with a Touch of Cream.   Coffee, Tea and Lemonade are served but you are welcome to bring your own libations (alcoholic or non-alcoholic but NOT in glass containers!) in order to help make your musical afternoon come even more to life!

We’ll leave Sedalia at 8 a.m. on a luxury charter bus with a rest room and many other amenities.  Also note that we can pick up any additional theater-goers between Sedalia and Jefferson City!  Our large, comfortable motor coach will arrive by 7:30 a.m. in order to give us time to board and get settled.  It will be parked between Penny’s and McDonalds in the Thompson Hills Shopping Center in Sedalia.   You are welcome to bring any food or beverages on board.

We’ll drive directly to Westphalia where we’ll tour another beautiful, historic church!  This time St. Joseph’s will welcome us!  St. Joseph’s was founded in 1833 and is the oldest German parish west of the Mississippi River and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  It is absolutely stunning!  Our own Fr. Joe Corel suggested that we visit this particular church before arriving at the theater since St. Joseph’s has recently undergone a massive renovation besides having a very interesting and inspiring history which we will hear about upon arrival!  Fr. Joe said that we will all be very impressed to tour and see this large, impressive sacred structure!  A noted church historian will be waiting for us!

After our tour of the church we will be treated to some light refreshments just as we were by the friendly ladies of the Altar Society at St. Andrew’s parish in Tipton a few weeks ago.  After this we’ll leave for the Capital City Productions Theater in Jefferson City which is not far away.
